Consumption, acquiring; where’s the balance?
the mental gymnastics of being online where lack is the main character
There’s such mental gymnastics of living online. I shared on stories yesterday how I was feeling so overwhelmed by it all. And just the constant shilling of “stuff”. Like, how much does one need !?
I get it. Social media is another way for us to detach from real life and ultimately feel just a bit better. I totally understand that perspective. 💯 percent.
I’m approaching 50, and my perspective on life is changing dramatically and rapidly.
I’m my era of stillness, surrender - and I’ve learned to detach from external validation. (Okay, tbh it’s a work in progress)!
Dependency on stuff for one’s life fulfillment is dangerous.
Why? Because stuff can appeal to our emotional body, where our perceived woundedness hangs out.
We end up in a self-consuming loop - nothing is ever good enough, and nothing is ever enough!
But let’s get into this….
So how to judge what you need…?
Buy things that insight joy. I really subscribe to that.
Use critical thinking. If you like something, give it a few days - still on your mind…maybe it’s a yes.
Part of maturity is learning how to operate from your inner guidance.
Dependency on external authority is a trap—and know this: Reliance on outside powers can atrophy our intuition and critical thinking. And give your power away….
Assert your own independence that you don’t NEED anything.
You are whole as is.
And that anything you bring into your life should only ENHANCE it and not take the place of human connection, experience, love, joy, and MEANING!
Addiction to tech and devices is ravaging our brain chemistry, nervous systems, and relationships. More than ever, we need human connection.
Stuff is neutral. It doesn’t hold any meaning.
What does? Feeling.
Get intentional about what you bring into your life, and more discerning.
Recalibrate your worth and wisdom.
You find what you're seeking, but only if you go in. You probably won’t need all the stuff and external validation, and you just may realize you had all the power within yourself all along and the knowing, the knowing to know what’s right for you and what isn’t!
Don’t outsource your happiness!
Thank you for your listening … we are keeping it real here. Keep following along for more ramblings (lol) and at times thoughtful posts about what I’m LOVING (only sharing the real goodness here).
Spring shopping
My favorite jean brand, Paige, also has some beautiful spring styles for men and women (think dresses, elevated basics, and neutrals for the season). Shop new arrivals (and their Mother’s Day gift guide) here with code Heather15.
