Surprise, the best makeup is…. good skin.
When my skin is in good shape, I feel my best: most me and most confident, even with my almost 50-year-old skin’s lines and wrinkles. So I rarely wear makeup unless I'm in front of the camera or on special occasions. Even then, I want my skin to look healthy and fresh. Part of it is lifestyle, but great skincare is the foundation.
The look I aim for is “glowy au natural", all year round. It's easy to achieve when you know exactly what your over- 40 skin needs, and I’m sharing that here.
So let’s dig in.
What contributes to dullness and fine lines settling in?
Well, there is a lot, but sun exposure and general aging lead to uneven skin tones, scarring, or the appearance of fine lines.
What is an effective and easy solution to regain that smooth and youthful glow?
Here it is: skin resurfacing.
By stimulating skin turnover, you are forcing your skin’s layers to stimulate rejuvenation from within.
My thing is this (here’s my word of caution!) I’ve done laser treatments, chemical peels, or other advanced modalities, but learn from my mistakes - I damaged my barrier and it took years to repair (yes years)!
Here’s the trick, you want to balance a gentle skin turnover while maintaining your skin’s barrier. This is the KEY. If you blast your skin harshly, you destroy your skin barrier. But if you gently induce turnover daily, you have fresh, radiant skin.
I wanted to share this with you today because it is the key to my “glow”.
And I know a lot of people out there are using a strong “astringent'“ type toner like P50 daily. . .I think that’s too much. I like a clean beauty brand, one where I know the ingredients, I can pronounce them and feel safe using them.
Here are two of my go-to’s to achieve that radiant glow.
They are safe to use daily, and they perform.
#1 I love a daily AM“treatment”. Yes, I said daily. And I found a gentle peel that is gentle enough to use everyday. I love that when I use this my skin immediately perks up, and it looks bright and glowy, and makeup goes on more smoothly.
This Alpyn Wild Huckleberry 8-Acid Polishing Peel takes just 5 minutes.
It is an award-winning double-exfoliating peel mask to visibly smooth and brighten skin while refining the look of pores
Wild Huckleberries visibly brighten and protect against free-radical damage.
Natural 8-Acid Complex (AHA/BHA Blend) actively exfoliate.
Bamboo Powder and Berry Seeds deliver a delicate, skin-buffing, microdermabrasion-like effect to brighten.
#2 Then, at night, I use a brightening toner
This Alpyn Pore Perfecting Liquid Exfoliator is a game changer. It preps my skin for all the serums and moisture I apply after, making them penetrate deeper.
More than a toner, this is a leave-on liquid exfoliator with 2% salicylic acid that helps minimize pores, improve clarity and reveal brighter skin, without stripping or drying
Borage Extract soothes and actively hydrates
2% Salicylic Acid (BHA) exfoliates pore-clogging debris
Vitamin C visibly brightens and protects against free-radical damage
Tremella Mushroom hydrates and maintains skin's natural pH
Alpyn is a line you can feel great about because they are the first skincare brand to sustainably hand-harvest wild plants at their peak potency and punctuate their power with proven clinical actives. The founder has a clinical background, so it truly is effective while being responsible, sustainable and clean. P.S. Now is the perfect time to shop my favorites. . . Alpyn is having its annual Friends & Family Sale right now!
TO SUMMARIZE, why should you care about skin resurfacing?
Because the skin’s natural ability to rejuvenate diminishes, treatments like skin resurfacing can help. Skin resurfacing can help by removing damaged outer layers, promoting faster cell turnover, and unveiling a revitalized, smoother complexion beneath. Resurfacing also rebuilds collagen and elastin, helping to support the skin’s surface and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Resurfacing your skin can also be helpful for concerns not age-related, such as acne scarring and hyperpigmentation.
To great skin, at any age,
